Supporters Demand Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the pop star are urging that a person who jumped a barricade and seized the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A circulating clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside photographers and charging at Grande while the actors proceeded down a yellow carpet accompanied by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly guided the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being arrested", though official papers showed that he was scheduled to appear on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram profile includes recordings of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney performance in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last year.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," stated an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over Grande's Safety
Several followers criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote one more message on Instagram.
Some supporters also criticised guards at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande looked startled when she was touched by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of attendees had gathered in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore mall, including some who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film interpretation of the acclaimed theatrical show Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely relationship between two very different witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored a dozen Academy Award nods, securing two for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
