Israelis commemorate two-year remembrance of October 7th incident as Palestinian ceasefire talks proceed
People have assembled throughout the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-led attack on 7 October 2023, as discussions continued in the neighboring country over a resolution to the hostilities in Gaza.
The attack led to over 1,200 people dead and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as captives. It was the most most fatal day for Jews since the Holocaust.
Israel responded by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are regarded as reliable by the UN and other global organizations.
"The aggressive adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on Tuesday.
He also vowed to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer present a danger to Israel".
Remembrance Events Across Israel
The government authorities rescheduled state memorials until 16 October - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still took place around the country on Tuesday.
A commemorative event for the loved ones of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas assault was conducted in the coastal city. Arranged by the affected families, it was aired on Israeli TV networks.
Hours earlier, a minute's silence was respected across the country.

A senior representative familiar with the negotiations revealed that an late session of negotiations started at 7 PM local time.
The official stated the morning session finished without tangible results, amid differences over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not recommence hostilities after the first phase of the agreement.
He commented that the negotiations are "tough and have not yet produce any major advancement," but pointed out that mediators are striving to close the differences between the conflicting groups.

"Once we see everybody home once more, we can feel relief again. Then we can start to rebuild," she concluded.
Near the prime minister's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people gathered to show their support for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel reports forty-eight remain in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are considered to be living.
