Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Concerns.

'Significant concern' for the touring side as Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

The English seamer further complicated England's injury problems when he left the playing area on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.

Team management indicated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field to undergo evaluation "during the day".

The final Test of the tour in Sydney begins this coming Sunday.

The English side has previously lost key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and another paceman because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was called up as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs while batting being one of only three England players to get into double digits.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he came back on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of that over, he delivered a change of pace to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test after being left out of the third.
