Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Against the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their initial World Series after 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Behind three runs to one, the star outfielder delivered a three-run home run in the seventh, leading the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a four games to three triumph in the seven-game series. They will now face the Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the anticipated championship.

"I'm just so happy for our team, Toronto, Canada," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."

Springer has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, ranking him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person anywhere that I want up in that situation except for Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's going to sting" after his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. Sadly that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this one," he continued.

Toronto's team won the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
