Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his future following another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received significant backing from the top,” the coach stated.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”

He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “In the normal discussions I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Problems and Player Response

The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with performances so bad.”

Jones stated, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we will always compete.”

“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”

“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
